Council is in the process of developing its Disability Inclusion Action Plan (DIAP) and seeking to engage people with a disability and their carers to help inform the Plan. Council is working in partnership with Snowy Valleys Council on this important project and a DIAP steering committee and project team have been established made up of staff from both councils as well as community members with disabilities and their carers.
Greater Hume Shire Council is committed to disability inclusion to build a strong equitable community and supports the fundamental right of choice for people with disability to choose how they live their lives, to access opportunities and enjoy the benefits of living and working in our society as all residents do. Council’s objective is to ensure that local services, facilities and programs provided by council are inclusive and as part of this are developing a Disability Inclusion Action Plan (DIAP).
There are a number of ways that Council is engaging with the community to inform the DIAP. If you are a person with a disability, a carer, family or friend of a person with a disability, we would love to hear from you. A survey is available on line at the following link: https://www.surveymonkey.com/r/RYWGFBJ
and all entries have the chance to win one of two $100 gift cards. Paper copies of the survey are available at all Council Offices or by phone 1300 653 538.
There are also a number of focus groups being run across the shire. If you are not in one of the existing groups involved, please come along to either of the following groups to tell us about your experiences of access and inclusion in the Greater Hume Shire:
