LAST CHANCE FOR FREE Testing for Loose-fill Asbestos in Greater Hume to 25 August 2017

Free testing for Loose-fill asbestos insulation in Greater Hume Shire

 
Homeowners in the Greater Hume Shire local government area will be able to again register for free sample testing for loose-fill asbestos insulation for a limited period.
 
NSW Fair Trading’s loose-fill asbestos insulation Voluntary Purchase and Demolition Program has completed 1,525 tests in Greater Hume and identified 39 houses containing loose-fill asbestos.
 
Member for Albury, Greg Aplin MP, said that the Government was re-opening the registration for free testing in the Greater Hume Shire to ensure property owners in these areas would have every opportunity to take part in the Program.
 
“We’re giving eligible homeowners, who have not yet contacted NSW Fair Trading, until 25 August 2017 to register for the Voluntary Purchase and Demolition Program,” Mr Aplin said.
 
“We are particularly interested in eligible residents in not just Holbrook, but Culcairn and Henty to register with the program and take advantage of the free sample testing.
 
“Should their property be confirmed to contain loose-fill asbestos insulation, homeowners will be able to access financial assistance and will have the option of selling it to the Government.”

The NSW Government has now tested more than 46,000 properties across the state for loose-fill asbestos insulation, with 139 properties identified to contain loose-fill asbestos.        83 properties have been acquired by the NSW Government and demolition has commenced on 29 properties, while 15 sites have been remediated and removed from the public register.
